Bullying isn’t what it used to be. Gone are the days when it happened only in the hallways or on the playground. Today, bullying takes new forms—and often follows students home through their phones.
At South Carolina Christian Academy, we’re standing up to it. That’s why we’ve partnered with BRIM, an anonymous reporting system that helps students speak out safely.
4 New Forms of Bullying Every Parent Should Know
1. Cyberbullying
Now, bullying often hides behind screens. Hurtful messages, cruel memes, and embarrassing photos spread fast through group chats, apps, and social media. Even worse, it doesn’t stop when the school day ends.
2. Social Exclusion
Some students are left out on purpose. They’re cut from group chats, parties, or online games. Although it may seem small, this kind of exclusion can be deeply painful and isolating.
3. Public Shaming
When a mistake goes public, it can quickly spiral. “Canceling” someone—especially online—can cause long-term emotional damage. Videos, screenshots, and harsh comments spread faster than ever.
4. Identity-Based Attacks
Unfortunately, some students are targeted for their race, religion, or gender. These attacks may sound like jokes, but the harm is real and lasting. Even small comments can hurt when they happen over and over.
Why It Matters More Than Ever
Because most bullying happens online, it’s harder for adults to see. However, the impact is no less real. Many students feel anxious, depressed, or even unsafe. As a result, their grades drop, and their confidence disappears.
Clearly, we can’t ignore this. And we won’t.
Our Solution: BRIM Reporting System
To fight back, South Carolina Christian Academy has partnered with BRIM. This system allows students to report bullying quickly, easily, and anonymously.
Here’s how it helps:
- Reports go straight to staff, so action can be taken fast.
- Students feel safer knowing they don’t have to speak out publicly.
- Patterns are tracked to prevent future incidents.
In short, BRIM gives everyone a voice—and schools the tools to respond.
What You Can Do Today
We all have a part to play in stopping bullying. Here’s how you can help:
✅ Parents – Talk to your kids. Ask questions. Monitor their digital world.
✅ Students – Use your voice. If you see something, report it through BRIM.
✅ Community Members – Support anti-bullying efforts. Share resources. Be a role model.
Together, we can change the culture—one act of courage at a time.
